The site itself matters

The most common reason a mobile job cannot proceed is not the repair — it is where the vehicle is. Level, solid ground with room around the vehicle is what we need. A vehicle on a slope, on grass after rain, or wedged into a space with no room to work is a problem regardless of how simple the job is.

The annual inspection

South Carolina has no state inspection, so a check engine light does not force anyone to a shop. We would still rather see it early — the fault is cheaper now than it will be later.

Diagnosis comes before parts

A trouble code identifies a circuit or a system that reported a problem. It does not identify a failed part. A code for an oxygen sensor circuit, for example, can be a sensor, wiring, a connector, an exhaust leak upstream, or a fuelling problem the sensor is correctly reporting.

What we see most in this climate

1. 1**Battery failure.** Charlotte summers weaken a battery and the first hard cold morning in November or December finishes it, usually with no warning at all.

Getting the most from a visit

Tell us the symptom rather than your diagnosis — what it does, when it does it, and what changed. Have the vehicle somewhere level with room around it. Mention any recent work. And if the vehicle will not start, say whether it cranks and will not fire or does not crank at all, because those are different problems and we bring different things.
